Please allow me to introduce myself – my name is Stephen Joyce – I am a published author and business consultant. I am also the co-founder of EldercareABC.com

The attached document explains a little about the history of EldercareABC and also about our target audience and how we wish to serve them.

I am sending you this message because we would like to form a relationship with your organization and feature it on our site. Please note that the site is not ‘live’ yet – the launch date is November 15th 2008.

Ideally I would like to have a phone conversation with the person who normally deals with approaches such as this.

I look forward to speaking with someone and we can take it from there.

Kindest regards

My fiancee (yes, two "e"s. We're a couple of California gals and happily planning to make our family legitimate in September) and I are preparing for a September wedding. Mom and Dad have their plane reservations to join us for the big day. Got a call from Mom today...Dad is getting too fragile to travel comfortably and safely and is not feeling up to the trip. Mom was afraid to tell me, thinking that I would be upset. Okay, I wish circumstances were different, but hey, Dad's health and safety are WAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY more important to me than seeing him on any particular day, even if it is my wedding day. I'll travel to see him. I'll take a video tape of the wedding...or better yet, I'll arrange for a webcast of the ceremony. Life's too precious to sweat the small stuff, and all-in-all even a wedding is small stuff. It's the marriage that matters, and I have the glorious example of Mom and Dad's nearly 58 year young marriage as a shining example of how to live in love and commitment. So, Dad, I love you no matter where you are. In our hearts I know we are always together.

Thank you Andrés and Steve, Life is indeed treating me and my parents well. Mom is thriving, Dad is hanging in there despite continued health issues, but their lives continue to be filled with many enjoyable days. I visit them on the east coast from my home on the west coast as often as I can, which is not as often as I wish I could. We speak by phone nearly daily, and I end every phone conversation with Dad by singing a song that he and I share. Remembering that having him around is a blessing has turned our many visits into treasures.

Dear Jane, I could not agree with you more. We are taught in the Christian tradition as well to honor our Father and Mother. I love your sage advice to look forward, not back, which is the essence of our faiths taught in both Passover and Easter. Our God is the God of new beginnings and new days and new discoveries with our elders and parents. Thus the honor of caring is one of learning and growing. Thank you for your wonderful post. I notice you have not posted since September and pray that life is treating you well and your Father has continued to improve. Happy New Year.

Hi Jane,

I really enjoyed reading your post very much. I agree that our age has left our elders in a very difficult position. I also agree that looking at the issue from the perspective of the divine is very helpful indeed! Perhaps you would be interested in reading this post I wrote:

It discusses similar ideas.
